Disney The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

The Wind in the Willows
The location is obviously England. Where in England is a little more difficult. Initially I thought to take a look at the places in the song “Merrily on Our Way,” but the locations were a little scattered. And besides, the song is rather nonsensical anyways. There is a part of the book, however, that was a little more enlightening. At one point a sea rat is taking with the river rat, and he mentions coming “to the pleasant harbours of Cornwall and Devon, and so up the Channel.” And eventually he heads inland, where he meets the river rat. This doesn’t pinpoint the location, but I took it to mean that it is somewhere in southwest England, but further east than Cornwall and Devon. That’s as far as I can logically arrive. To make a guess beyond that, I’ll just say Wiltshire (for no reason in particular).

As for the time, the main indication we have is that of the motorcar. Based on that, I’d say that we could reasonably say that the events occur around the later 1800s or early 1900s. The aircraft at the end is also somewhat of an indication. But for this one, I’m going to take the lazy route. The Disney Archives say that it’s a 1908 biplane, so I’m going to go with 1908 as the time.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
There really are two villages in New York called Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown. I haven’t done enough research to determine if they adequately fit the description in either the Disney version or Irving’s original story, but the fact that the names fit are good enough for me.

As for the time, Irving mentions that the events take place about 30 years previous to his telling the story. It was first published in 1820. Therefore, the time can be placed at approximately 1790.
