What’s in a Name? – Fun and Fancy Free

Disney Fun and Fancy Free

There’s not too much to say here. The name Fun and Fancy Free comes from the song “I’m a Happy-Go-Lucky Fellow.” The song was actually written for Pinocchio originally, but it was unused for that film.

Most of the characters are pre-existing, so their names are not new for this movie. For example: Jiminy Cricket, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc. Of course, Dinah Shore was an existing name (of a real person). But did anyone else notice the similarity between her name and “dinosaur?” I hope that it’s just a coincidence and not a joke by her parents.

Bongo and Lulu-bell are the most unique new names. My guess is that Bongo sounded like a good circus name. As for Lulu-bell… well, she just looks like a Lulu-bell.
