Disney Make Mine Music

Since the text and naming in Make Mine Music is very simple, I don’t have much too say in this section. I did think it was interesting to make note of the term cat from “All the Cats Join In.” Hip cat was a term used by the jazz crowd in the 40s that is used to describe someone who was trendy and with the times. Its exact origin is disputed, but many (including Dizzy Gillespie, if my memory serves me correctly) believe that it was a corruption of hepicat, which is actually a word from Wolof, an African dialect, which means “one who has his eyes open.”

You also might be interested in knowing that the appellation Johnny Fedora became the name of a popular spy fiction hero beginning in the 1950’s.
