Bambi II

Bambi II was released 64 years after the original was released. Like most Disney sequels, it was produced by DisneyToon studios, not the main Disney Animation Studios. Unlike most Disney sequels, however, it had a theatrical release in some countries, though not in the United States. While I’m not really a fan of any of the Disney sequels, I was a little interested in Bambi II, so I borrowed it from the local library to have a look.

Ultimately, it wasn’t that great. I didn’t care too much for the movie, which seemed to completely ignore some of the more interesting parts of the original Bambi, such as the Great Prince’s silent and obscure role. Plus Man is all but gone from the film, replaced merely by his dogs.

There were several elements that Bambi II got from Salten’s book that weren’t in the original film. Ronno the deer is the most apparent. But there are a few other things, such as snares, that feature in the book but not in the first film.

Salten also wrote a sequel to his book, but Bambi II is not based off of it. The book’s sequel concerns Bambi’s children, while the film’s sequel actually shows events that occur in between two parts of the first movie.
